Back to Mine - Bugz In The Attic

Picture this the club has ended and you and your mates are still
buzzing and the last place you want to go is to bed. So with a wave of
inspiration you declare “Back to Mine”. On arrival, carry out’s and
other essential supplies in hand there’s a mass scramble for the
turntables or CD player, but with a little diplomacy you inform the
rabble that “it’s one on and one off” and then lay down the first
platter. Where will it take you next? It’s this kind of situation that
inspired DMC to explore the eclectic flipside to the DJs and artists
that feature in clubs and venues every single weekend. Realising that
whenever they came in from a night out clubbing or rocking, someone
would always get on the decks and end up putting together some weird
and wonderful mix, they were quick to spot the opportunity. And so
BACK TO MINE was born. The original and the innovators, just like the
artists that work with them. What you are getting here is not only
great music put together with no small amount of imagination, you are
also benefiting from years spent rooting about in musky establishments
looking for that elusive vinyl treasure that is going to make the DJs’
sets and artists’ recordings just that little bit more special. And
that’s what BACK TO MINE is about. Reflection. Personal insight. And
damn fine tunes that surprise and yet pull you in. Embrace it and let
it take you in out of the cold and into the warm. Sit back, relax,
pour yourself a drink, and let the blissed out beats and tunes make
the hectic evening you’ve just had melt away…
Hot on the heals of the fabulous Royksopp Back to Mine mix, London’s
Bugz In The Attic rise to the challenge and deliver nothing short of a
summer sizzler. On their own productions this nonchalant, occasionally
chaotic octet of musicians have a natural knack for producing quality
dance music, a trait that is ever present on this 19 track musical
odyssey. In typical Back to Mine fashion this mix is a melting pot of
musical styles fused together with great studio prowess.
Opening with the Maurice Fulton produced ‘Lets Get Sick’ this mix
instantly pricks up the listeners ears before moving into some serious
punk funk courtesy of 80’s Rough Trade favourites Maximum Joy. The
late great J Dilla covers just a smidgen of the hip hop on here before
leading into Rammelzee’s electro classic ‘Beat Bop’. Jack Wilson adds
some carnival flavour whilst Bodysnatch and Unique 3 inject some old
skool rave before taking it all down a notch. The Sylvers and Kid
Creole add a touch of vintage soul, The Fearless Four start the uprock
for those partial to a windmill or two followed by the sugar sweet
voices of Leon Ware and Carroll Thompson who lead into Earth, Wind &
Fire’s aptly titled climax ‘The Departure’
