Diplo / Slater Hogan St. Patties Day NOLA
This post kicks off a two week stent of no work and traviling for me (nola, miami, NYC + more) Expect MANY more updates/pictures/video over the next few days.
So me and some friends drove several hundred miles on Saturday, home to New Orleans to catch the Diplo/BondeDoRole show at Republic. I have not been down to a show in the city in about a year and wanted to see my folks and catch a late night with Slater Hogan. So we get in the club and the turnout is cool for it being so early. New Orleans is notorious for not getting good and crunk till after hours. THe club had good EAW sound and all kinds of crazy video on the screen behind the stage. BondeDoRole finished up and diplo drops his first few tracks. Everyone is dancing and having a good time. Now here is the part where I was let down.
Since the storm a majority of the people keeping places like Republic open are college kids from Tulane and Loyola. A majority of those kids are not locals. If you were a local and supporting your self before the storm it was very hard to come back to the area with no home and no job. I would say only a quarter of my friends remained in the city and continued to work after Katrina. We were all raised on bounce. We listened to wild wayne drop heat every weekend on 93.3 and appreciate the history and the sound. The crowd at Republic had no idea the heat you dropped on them. Even hearing 5th Ward Weebie’s Fuck Katrina didn’t mean as much to them because most of them were back home watching it with their folks on TV. Now you play that same track in a club north of I10 and you would have a riot on your hands.
Any ways I’m not meaning to bitch. The set was shit hot (even if it was only an hour). Drag em N tha River made it worth the drive. The fresh Abita beer was on point too. Ill see if I can find my camera a post some pictures to go along with this. I think a few of us are going to try and catch the show again in at studio a later this month
fron diplo on the hollarboard:
that was my fifth time in new orleans to dj, and everytime Its a lil bigger crowd and poeple are more open to what im doin. that city is probably the best one in the world

Then it was over to the whirling Dirvish for Slater Hogan. The Night over there is called Fuck the Pain Away and it is normally a mix of 80’s electro and Industrial but Slater was throwing down a great mix of the 4/4 and 80’s classics. It was a great way to cap off the night. Good seeing Amanda, Josh and Eugene. Much love to nola. Now its off to miami for WMC.
